About COREN:

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) was established by the Engineering (Registration, etc.) Act No. 55 of 1970, as amended by Decree 27 of 1992 and now Engineers (Registration, etc.) Act, Cap E11 of 2004 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. COREN is empowered to regulate and control the practice of engineering in Nigeria and regulate the training of engineers.

Key Functions:

  1. Regulation of Engineering Practice: COREN regulates the practice of engineering in Nigeria by establishing and enforcing standards of professional competence, ethical conduct, and engineering practice among registered engineers.
  2. Registration of Engineers: COREN is responsible for the registration and licensing of engineers, engineering firms, and engineering consulting companies in Nigeria, ensuring that only qualified and competent professionals practice engineering in the country.
  3. Accreditation of Engineering Programs: COREN accredits engineering degree programs offered by tertiary institutions in Nigeria, ensuring that they meet the required standards of education and training necessary for the practice of engineering.
  4. Promotion of Engineering Education: COREN promotes engineering education and training in Nigeria by collaborating with academic institutions, professional bodies, and industry stakeholders to enhance the quality and relevance of engineering programs.
  5. Public Awareness and Advocacy: COREN engages in public awareness campaigns, advocacy, and outreach activities to promote the importance of engineering, raise awareness about engineering issues, and foster public understanding of the role of engineers in national development.
