Overview

The Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority (BORBDA) is a governmental organization in Nigeria responsible for the integrated development and management of water resources, agricultural projects, and infrastructure within the Benin-Owena River Basin. This basin covers parts of southwestern Nigeria, including Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Delta states.

Mission

The mission of BORBDA is to harness and develop water resources for sustainable agricultural production, water supply, flood control, and socio-economic development within the Benin-Owena River Basin.

Key Functions

    • Provision of potable water and sanitation facilities to improve living standards.

  • Owena Multipurpose Dam: A multipurpose dam providing irrigation water, hydroelectric power, and flood control.
  • Irrigation Projects: Various irrigation projects aimed at boosting agricultural productivity in the region, including the Ogbese and Eporo irrigation schemes.
  • Water Supply Projects: Development of urban and rural water supply schemes to provide potable water to communities in Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, and Delta states.
