The Forestry Research Institute of Ibadan (FRIN) is a government-owned research institute located in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. Established in 1955, FRIN is mandated to conduct research, development, and training activities in forestry and related natural resource management fields.

FRIN’s primary objectives include:
- Research: FRIN conducts scientific research in various aspects of forestry, including tree breeding, forest management, agroforestry, forest ecology, and biodiversity conservation. Research findings contribute to the development of sustainable forestry practices and policies in Nigeria.
- Development: FRIN develops technologies, methodologies, and innovations to improve forest management practices, enhance timber production, promote reforestation and afforestation efforts, and address environmental challenges such as deforestation and desertification.
- Training and Capacity Building: FRIN provides training programs, workshops, and seminars to build the capacity of forestry professionals, government officials, community stakeholders, and students in forestry-related fields. Training activities aim to enhance knowledge, skills, and best practices in forestry and natural resource management.
- Extension and Outreach: FRIN engages in extension activities to disseminate research findings, technologies, and best practices to forestry stakeholders, policymakers, and the public. Extension efforts support the adoption of sustainable forestry practices and contribute to environmental conservation and livelihood improvement.
- Collaboration and Networking: FRIN collaborates with national and international organizations, research institutions, universities, and government agencies to leverage expertise, resources, and partnerships in forestry research, development, and capacity building. Collaboration enhances FRIN’s impact and effectiveness in addressing forestry challenges.
FRIN’s research facilities include laboratories, experimental forests, arboreta, and nurseries. The institute also maintains botanical gardens and herbaria for plant conservation and research purposes.
