Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB) was established by Decree 38 of 1988/Acts M9 LFN 2004 for the regulation and control of the under listed professions in the Health Sector in Nigeria:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Clinical Audiology
  • Osteopathic Medicine
  • Chiropractic Medicine
  • Prosthetics & Orthotics

Functions and Responsibilities of Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB) are:

  1. Regulation: Overseeing the licensure, registration, and certification of medical rehabilitation therapists to ensure they meet the necessary qualifications, training standards, and professional competencies.
  2. Standards Setting: Establishing and enforcing standards of practice, ethics, and professional conduct for medical rehabilitation therapists to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and quality care to patients.
  3. Accreditation: Accrediting educational programs and institutions that offer training in medical rehabilitation therapy to ensure they meet the required standards for producing competent and skilled therapists.
  4. Continuing Education: Promoting continuing education and professional development opportunities for medical rehabilitation therapists to enhance their knowledge, skills, and clinical competencies.
  5. Complaints and Discipline: Investigating complaints against therapists and taking disciplinary actions, when necessary, to address violations of regulations, ethical standards, or professional misconduct.
  6. Public Awareness: Raising public awareness about the role and importance of medical rehabilitation therapy in enhancing health, functional independence, and quality of life for individuals with disabilities or health conditions.
  7. Collaboration: Collaborating with other healthcare regulatory bodies, professional associations, government agencies, and stakeholders to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, advocate for the needs of patients, and advance the field of medical rehabilitation therapy.
