Mandate: NERC’s primary mandate is to regulate the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity in Nigeria. The commission is responsible for creating a conducive environment for investment in the electricity sector, ensuring the provision of reliable and affordable electricity services, and protecting the interests of consumers and other stakeholders.

  3. Market Operations: NERC oversees the operation of the electricity market in Nigeria, including the administration of market rules, contracts, and settlements among market participants such as generation companies (GENCOs), distribution companies (DISCOs), and transmission companies (TCN).
  4. Consumer Protection: NERC is tasked with protecting the interests of electricity consumers by establishing standards of service, handling consumer complaints and disputes, and promoting consumer education and awareness.
