Nigeria Shippers Council is the apex regulatory agency responsible for promoting and protecting the interests of shippers in Nigeria’s maritime and shipping sector.

About NSC:

Established in 1978, NSC operates under the Federal Ministry of Transportation and plays a crucial role in facilitating trade, ensuring fair treatment of shippers, and promoting efficiency in the shipping industry. The council serves as an advocate for shippers, addressing their concerns, resolving disputes, and implementing policies to enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian ports and shipping operations.

Services Offered:

  1. Shippers’ Advocacy: NSC advocates for the interests of shippers, representing their concerns to government authorities, port operators, shipping lines, and other stakeholders. The council works to address challenges faced by shippers and improve the business environment for maritime trade.
  2. Regulatory Oversight: NSC regulates the activities of shipping companies, terminal operators, freight forwarders, and other entities involved in maritime transportation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and promoting adherence to international best practices.
  3. Capacity Building: NSC provides training and capacity-building programs for shippers, freight forwarders, and other stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and skills in areas such as logistics, cargo handling, customs procedures, and trade facilitation.
  4. Dispute Resolution: NSC offers dispute resolution mechanisms for shippers to resolve grievances and disputes arising from shipping transactions, including issues related to freight rates, demurrage, cargo damage, and service quality.
